New Delhi, March 3: Indian Grandmaster Pa Iniyan emerged victorious at the 38th Cannes International Open, finishing unbeaten with 7.5 points. His triumph was sealed with a crucial final-round victory over compatriot V Pranesh in Cannes, France.

Iniyan’s most significant win came in the penultimate round against Delhi-based International Master Aradhya Garg, who finished second with seven points. He shared the same score as reigning World Junior Champion Kazybek Noderbek of Kazakhstan, but the latter had to settle for third place due to a tiebreak.

Maintaining an undefeated run throughout the tournament, Iniyan secured six wins and three draws. His strong performance in the final three rounds, where he won all his games, proved decisive in securing the title. His victory also earned him 12 rating points, bringing his Elo rating to 2579, putting him closer to the 2600 mark.

The prestigious event, which concluded on Sunday, featured 147 participants from 25 countries, including six Grandmasters and 21 International Masters.
