Inspector ‘line closed’ in Palamu for making reels inside police station

Daltonganj, January 29: An inspector of police in Palamu district has been removed from his post as station house officer (SHO) and placed under ‘line closure’ after he was found making social media reels inside a police station while in uniform.

Inspector-cum-officer-in-charge of Hussainabad Police Station, Sonu Kumar Choudhury, was withdrawn from the post and attached to police lines in Daltonganj on Wednesday, January 28.

SP Orders Immediate Action

A district order issued by Palamu Superintendent of Police Reeshma Ramesan confirmed Choudhury’s line closure with immediate effect. The order also transferred Inspector Chandan Kumar from the Paton police circle to take charge as the new officer-in-charge of Hussainabad police station.

This newspaper has accessed a copy of the official district order.

Speaking to The Jharkhand Story Network, SP Reeshma Ramesan said, “Choudhury has been line closed with immediate effect.”

Reels Shot on Republic Day

Police sources said the inspector made reels inside the police station on Republic Day while on duty and in full uniform. He reportedly filmed his wife inside the station premises and was also seen placing his official police cap on her head.

“These acts amount to serious indiscipline and misconduct. No police officer in uniform has the liberty to do this,” the SP reiterated.

Disciplinary Proceedings Initiated

As Choudhury is of inspector rank, disciplinary proceedings have been initiated by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Palamu Range, Kishore Kaushal, police sources said.

Filming or making reels inside a police station is strictly prohibited. Sources further claimed that the reels were uploaded on social media platforms, another violation of service conduct rules.

First Such Case in Palamu

Police sources described this as the first instance in Palamu where an officer has lost his station charge for making reels. “The SP was in no mood to tolerate such indiscipline,” a source said.

Choudhury will remain attached to police lines until the disciplinary inquiry is completed.
