Bengaluru, Jan 16: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) made history today morning by successfully placing two satellites into space. With the successful docking of the satellites under the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX), India has become the fourth country, after the United States, Russia, and China, to achieve this feat.
ISRO shared the achievement on X saying, “SpaDeX Docking Update: Docking Success. Spacecraft docking successfully completed! A historic moment. Let’s walk through the SpaDeX docking process: Manoeuvre from 15m to 3m hold point completed. Docking was initiated with precision, leading to successful spacecraft capture. Retraction was completed smoothly, followed by rigidisation for stability. Docking successfully completed.”
“India became the 4th country to achieve successful Space Docking. Congratulations to the entire team! Congratulations to India,” ISRO added.

Earlier on January 12, ISRO successfully completed the satellite docking test. Under this test, two spacecraft were brought to a distance of three meters and then sent back to a safe distance.
ISRO launched the ‘Space Docking Experiment’ (SpaDeX) mission on December 30, 2024. The mission was launched at 10 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
According to scientists, the success of this mission is crucial for the establishment of the Indian Space Station and future human space missions like Chandrayaan-4. Mission Director stated that the 44.5-meter-long PSLV-C60 rocket was sent with two spacecraft: Chaser (SDX01) and Target (SDX02).
