SIT Intensifies Investigation

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ehtesham Waquarib said the SIT was intensifying efforts to trace the remaining absconding accused and was relying on scientific and technical evidence to establish every link in the case.

According to police, Himanshu Singh and Pratyush Singh were allegedly assaulted with deadly weapons by Vishwanath Lohra alias Bodra and his associates around 11.30 pm. Himanshu later succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while Pratyush is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata.

An FIR was registered under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against 10 named accused and several unidentified persons. An SIT was subsequently constituted to investigate the case.

Three Arrested, Juvenile Apprehended

Police said the SIT has been conducting sustained raids using CCTV footage, technical surveillance, human intelligence and forensic evidence. Five named accused had earlier been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

In the latest operation, the SIT arrested Vijay Mahanand, manager of DD Bar, from his residence in Birsanagar. Two other accused—Lakhindra Lohar of Dhatkidih and Jagdish Mandal alias Rohan—were also arrested. A juvenile was apprehended in connection with the case.

During interrogation, police alleged that Jagdish Mandal helped the prime accused evade arrest by providing shelter, concealing the weapons used in the crime and arranging vehicles for their escape.

Weapons, Motorcycle and Mobile Phones Seized

Based on disclosures made by Lakhindra Lohar and the apprehended juvenile, police recovered several weapons hidden at a location in Dhatkidih.

The seized items include an iron chopper, an axe, a dagger, a large knife, eight iron punch weapons, a steel gupti, a Hero motorcycle (registration number JH-05EH-7980) allegedly used during the escape, and five mobile phones.

Police said the recovered weapons and digital evidence are expected to strengthen the prosecution’s case.

“The SIT is meticulously piecing together every aspect of the case using scientific and technical evidence. Anyone found directly or indirectly involved will face strict legal action. Raids are continuing to apprehend the remaining absconding accused, and the investigation is progressing rapidly,” SSP Ehtesham Waquarib said.

The latest arrests and recoveries are being seen as a significant breakthrough in the investigation into one of Jamshedpur’s most high-profile murder cases in recent months.
