After shooting dead Sajjad, a land broker and also a notorious criminal at Jawaharnagar in Mango on December 8 forenoon, the two bike-borne criminals who were Chowda Raju’s shooters had tried to escape but were caught by mobile cops following a chase. But one of the cops, Ramdev Mahto, was shot by the criminals and later succumbed to his injury.

Incidentally, one of the shooters identified as Sanjay Sarkar was caught by the surviving mobile cop. It was during Sarkar’s interrogation that he divulged the name of Chowda Raju behind the murder of Sajjad.

A police team from Jamshedpur has left for Haldia this morning and is camping there so that once the five days remand period of Chowda Raju gets through, it will bring him on the transit remand from Haldia to Jamshedpur immediately.

According to sources, a pistol that Chowda Raju was clandestinely carrying had incidentally fallen off at the Haldia railway station platform, attracting the attention of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawans. Soon after, the accused had been taken into custody and was forwarded to the Haldia jail before he was taken into five days police remand for further interrogation.
