Ranchi, Sept 11: State Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan today said that initiatives will be taken soon to implement the long-pending Advocate Protection Act in Jharkhand.

Addressing a press conference, Ranjan said Chief Minister Hemant Soren has fulfilled the promises, he made, during an interaction with lawyers, last year.

He said that 164 lawyers in the state are taking advantage of the pension scheme. “Earlier, new lawyers were given an incentive amount of Rs 1000, which has now been increased to Rs 5,000.

Besides, they will get Rs 5 lakhs of medical insurance coverage and a pension of Rs 14,000 every month.

On January 7, Chief Minister Hemant Soren had a direct dialogue with the lawyers of the state and listened to their pain. During that time, he had promised the lawyers that he would link the lawyers with health insurance and life insurance.

“The chief minister kept his promises. Jharkhand is the first state in the country, where the government is strengthening the lawyers financially by linking them with its schemes,” the A-G said.

He further said about 15,000 lawyers of the state are members of the Trustee Committee. At present, the government has made a provision of Rs 13 crore for health insurance.

The Advocate General has urged the District Bar Association and other associations working in the interest of lawyers to connect all the lawyers of the state with the government’s schemes.
