Daltonganj, Dec 16: The district agriculture team either forgot or concealed a major information about the ‘Nilgais’ causing extensive damage to the crops and veggies here in Palamu district from the Jharkhand Agriculture Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey on Sunday here in Daltonganj where she held a brief review meeting of her department’s officials at the new circuit house.

Minister responds to Nilgai crop damage concern

The Jharkhand Story correspondent raised this menace of the Nilgai to which minister Shilpa Neha Tirkey said “I wonder none of my officers who were here minutes ago before this press conference told me about it. Now I take note of it and will look into it.”

The minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey was candid equally when reminded that Jharkhand Milk Federation’s Medha dairy project is far behind its goal and achievement saying “Medha’s poor track record in Jharkhand is almost the same where it has its plant. It’s all man-made.”

The minister had one more queer situation when her own party’s district president of Congress here in Palamu Bittu Pathak reached quite late to join her press briefing.

A wise Bittu Pathak made his entry saying ‘sorry, sorry for being late’ that immediately caught the attention of the minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey and then the minister went on speaking on the issues she had to stop following this hurried entry of Bittu Pathak.

She talked about marginal farmers, fish farming, seeds distribution etc.

Minister participates in Christmas celebrations

Earlier in the day on Sunday the minister spent around 2 and a half hours on the premises of the Catholic Church here in Daltonganj. She was accompanied by the Manika MLA Ramchander Singh.

Bishop of Palamu Catholic Churches Rev Theodore Mascarenhas welcomed Shilpi and Ramchander. There was a grand gala programme on the Christmas festivities.

Faithfuls in good numbers of the 23 catholic churches under the Palamu division took part in this celebration.

However, a member of the Catholic Church told this correspondent “There is no job for our educated youths. They have degrees rolled in their hands but jobs nowhere in sight.”

The Christian community feels alienated much but despite all the oddities this community commands the trust of the other communities here in Palamu.

The participation of Manika MLA Ramchander Singh in the Christmas celebration has great political importance. The Christians helped Ramchander secure his poll victory for the second consecutive term in 2024 as without this community’s support the political cum poll journey of Ramchander Singh could have been very difficult, not wonder he might have missed the victory stand.

The programme in the Catholic Church here was fantastic. Girls were in the best of their dresses and make-ups. Boys wore coats and jackets but the girls believed more in showing their spick and span clothes ignoring biting winter.

A gentle lady came with a plate full of slices of the cake for the people to have it. Many loved picking up the slices of the cake.

Bishop Rev Theodore Mascarenhas was seen sharing smiles with a couple of protectors in uniform and armed to the teeth accompanying the protectee the minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey.
