Ranchi, Jan 31: The Jharkhand BJP has strongly condemned Sonia Gandhi’s recent remark about President Droupadi Murmu.
State BJP President Babulal Marandi criticized Gandhi for referring to President Murmu—who holds the highest constitutional position in the country and is a daughter of the tribal community—as a “poor lady.” He called the comment not only highly condemnable but also reflective of a feudal mindset.
“Sonia ji, why do you hate tribals so much? Does the Gandhi family consider high constitutional posts its birthright? If you cannot respect the tribals, at least respect the dignity of the President’s office,” Marandi said.

The controversy arose on the first day of the Budget session when Sonia Gandhi reportedly remarked that President Murmu “looked very tired, poor thing.”
Arjun Munda, Champai Soren also slam Sonia
Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda also condemned the statement, calling it “absolutely indecent.” He accused the Congress of hypocrisy, stating, “On one hand, Congress seeks votes in the name of the Constitution, and on the other, it insults a tribal woman holding the highest constitutional post in the country. This is the true character of Congress.”
Former Chief Minister Champai Soren echoed similar sentiments, calling the remark an insult to both the tribal community and women as a whole.
“This is Congress’s mindset toward a tribal woman occupying the nation’s highest office. They have always tried to undermine tribal identity—whether by attempting to remove the tribal religion code or using force against protesting tribals. This is their reality,” Soren said.

He further stated that Congress cannot accept the fact that a tribal woman has ascended to the highest position in the country. “Even after seven and a half decades of independence, this honour became possible only under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he added.
He concluded by affirming that the entire nation, including the tribal community, takes pride in President Murmu. “This insult to her will not be tolerated,” he warned.
