Jamshedpur, Dec 6: Bhartiya Janatantra Yuva Morcha (BJYM) president Amit Sharma has on Wednesday morning been taken into police custody for reportedly preparing to protest in front of Chief Minister Hemant Soren during the latter’s scheduled visit to Sidhgora later in the evening.
Amit Sharma was picked up from his house in Birsanagar and has been kept at the Birsanagar Thana for no apparent reason prior to the Chief Minister’s visit.
BJYM is youth wing of Saryu Roy
BJYM is the youth wing of the veteran politician and Jamshedpur East legislator Sarayu Roy. Moreover, Birsanagar falls under Roy’s legislative segment area, which is also a stronghold area of the veteran legislator.
CM Hemant Soren is scheduled to address a party workers’ meeting in the evening at the Sidhgora Town Hall which also falls under the Jamshedpur East assembly segment.
It may be mentioned here that Jamshedpur East is the same constituency from where the five-time legislator and former CM Raghubar Das was defeated by Sarayu Roy in the 2019 assembly elections.

Had no plan to show black flags: BJYM secretary
“Police have picked up the BJYM president Amit Sharma from his home this morning and has been kept at the Birsanagar Thana without food. We gather as our leader has been taken into custody prior to CM’s visit because of local police’s apprehension that BJYM may demonstrate highlighting the failure on the part of the police in curbing illegal commercial activities in Burmamines Thana area, ” said the BJYM secretary Vikash Gupta while talking to the newsman at the Birsanagar Thana.
Gupta, when queried, said they had no plan to show black flags as such, adding that the peculiar act on the part of the local police is beyond the imagination of the BJYM.
Police are, however, evading to answer regarding the detention of Amit Sharma.
Birsanagar Thana OC did respond to the call made by The Jharkhand Story. The senior SP, Kishore Kaushal while responding to a query by this website said “There is nothing of the sort regarding the person’s detention being asked about.”
