Ranchi, June 15: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday launched a state-wide awareness campaign aimed at making Jharkhand drug-free and flagged off publicity vehicles that will travel across districts to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and narcotics trafficking.

The campaign was launched from the Jharkhand Mantralaya (Secretariat) and seeks to educate people, especially the youth, about the harmful effects of banned narcotics and substance abuse.

Focus on Protecting Youth from Drug Abuse
The publicity vehicles will visit various districts to disseminate information on the health, social and economic consequences of drug addiction while encouraging people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Addressing officials and participants, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said drug abuse has far-reaching consequences not only for individuals but also for families and society.

“The consumption of intoxicants and banned narcotics hurts human health. We need cooperation to move forward to make Jharkhand a drug-free state,” Soren said.
He emphasised that substance abuse affects every aspect of a person’s life.
“Drug addiction destroys an individual’s physical, mental, financial and social well-being. It not only makes a person ill but also pushes the entire family and society into deep crisis,” the Chief Minister said.

Government Intensifying Action Against Narcotics Trade
Soren said the state government has been consistently working to curb the illegal trade of narcotics and strengthen awareness initiatives.
“Saving the youth from the grip of drug abuse is among the government’s top priorities. Substance abuse poses a serious challenge to the progress of families, society and the state,” he said.
“The state government is continuously conducting campaigns to strictly curb the illegal drug trade. Alongside enforcement measures, a comprehensive public awareness programme has been launched to educate people, particularly young citizens, about the harmful effects of drugs,” he added.
Chief Minister Appeals for Public Participation
The Chief Minister urged people to actively support the campaign and spread awareness within their communities.
“I appeal to everyone to stay away from drugs and help create awareness among family members, friends and society about the dangers of substance abuse,” Soren said.
The campaign is expected to cover all districts of the state and strengthen efforts to prevent drug addiction among young people through community engagement and awareness activities.
