Ranchi, Feb 2: Chief Minister Hemant Soren emphasized that the penance and sacrifices of tribal ancestors have led to the recognition and identity that tribals hold today. “We pay our respects and salute the martyrs who have given us the strength to raise our voices on national platforms. We are proud to be tribals, and we take pride in our martyrs and revolutionaries,” he said.
He was speaking at the event in Serengasia, Tonto block, West Singhbhum, organized in memory of the heroes of the 1837 revolt against British rule. On this occasion, he paid his heartfelt tribute to the immortal martyrs.
Tribal Resistance Existed Even Before India’s Freedom Struggle Began
The Chief Minister highlighted that tribals fought against the powerful British forces even before India’s independence movement started. Their contribution to the country’s freedom struggle remains unforgettable. However, even today, tribals continue to struggle against feudal forces. He urged the community to educate their children and secure their future, stressing that tribals must become strong economically, socially, educationally, and politically.

Martyrdom Day Celebrations Begin on New Year’s Day
Soren noted that Jharkhand is a land of heroes and martyrs, with a tradition of commemorating sacrifices throughout the year. The annual observance starts with a tribute to the martyrs of the Kharsawan firing on January 1. He reaffirmed that his government honours the rights and dignity of martyrs and their families.
Jharkhand’s Struggle for Statehood Came at a Great Cost
The Chief Minister recalled the long struggle for Jharkhand’s statehood, led by Dishom Guru Shibu Soren. Tribals fought for nearly 40–50 years before finally achieving a separate state. However, he criticized the previous governments that ruled for 18–20 years, claiming they neglected tribal development. “Just as we fought for Jharkhand, we will continue to fight for our rights,” he asserted.
Jharkhand’s Resources Power the Nation, Yet the State Remains Underdeveloped
Soren pointed out that Jharkhand’s mineral wealth fills the national treasury and contributes to the country’s development. However, despite this, the state remains one of the most backward in India due to years of neglect. He assured that under his government, continuous efforts are being made to accelerate Jharkhand’s progress.
Empowering Women with Financial Support
The Chief Minister reminded people that his government, formed in 2019 with public support, faced many challenges. However, in 2024, with the people’s mandate, they returned to power. He compared Jharkhand’s policies with the central government’s, stating:
- While the central government allocates ₹25,000–26,000 crore annually for women’s development, Jharkhand’s government provides ₹1,500 crore per month to uplift women.
- Jharkhand is the first state to give ₹2,500 per month to women as honor money.
Guiding Women on Financial Independence
Soren cautioned women against individuals trying to exploit the financial aid they receive. He assured them that the government would guide them on using the money effectively. He directed the district administration to develop action plans that link women with economic activities, making them self-reliant through workshops at the village and panchayat levels.
Helping the Poor Stand on Their Own
The Chief Minister stressed that the poor need more than just assistance—they need to become self-sufficient. His government aims to strengthen them economically, socially, and financially, ensuring no one remains dependent on others.
