Ranchi, July 26: Chief Minister Hemant Soren today said that we will be safe only if the environment is safe. “If there are no trees and plants, then there will be a danger to the animals. To avoid such a situation in future, conservation of the environment is essential,” he pointed out.

Soren was the chief guest, addressing the 75th state-wide Van Mahotsav organised in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly premises.

We have been celebrating Van Mahotsav for 75 years

The chief minister said that we have been celebrating Van Mahotsav for 75 years.

“Van Mahotsav is not just a programme, but a big campaign to protect the environment. In such a situation, we should all pledge to plant as many trees as possible, so that we can control the imbalance that is being created in the environment,” he pointed out.

When there was no need for tree plantation in Jharkhand

The chief minister said that the identity of Jharkhand was water, forest and land. “There was a time when there were dense forests all around the state. There was greenery everywhere. During that time there was no need for tree plantation here. But, as we moved towards development, the forests came under threat. Trees were cut on a large scale due to various reasons including expansion of industries, large-scale mining activities, and construction of bridges, culverts and roads. Where there used to be forests, concrete jungles were built. Interference in the natural system had a direct impact on the environment,” he said.

Soern said that due to the imbalance of nature being disturbed, today we are facing various challenges. “If we do not take care, we will have to be ready to face its serious consequences. In such a situation, everyone will have to come forward to plant as many trees as possible, only then will we be able to keep our lives safe along with the environment,” he said.

On this occasion, Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato, Ministers Rameshwar Oraon, Irfan Ansari and Mithilesh Kumar Thakur, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Avinash Kumar, PCCF Sanjay Srivastava and many senior officials were present.
