Ranchi, February 23: Jharkhand governor CP Radhakrishnan today approved the proposal received from the state government for the formation of the Fifth State Finance Commission under Article 243-I read with Article 243-Y of the Constitution of India and Section 114 (1) of the Jharkhand Panchayat Raj Act 2001.
In light of this, Amarendra Pratap Singh, IAS (Retd), has been appointed chairman of the Fifth State Finance Commission.
The members of the Fifth State Finance Commission will be Harishwar Dayal, Associate Professor, Head of the Department (Economics), St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi and Director, Panchayati Raj (Panchayati Raj Department), Jharkhand (ex-officio)
Notably, State Finance Commissions support the local self-governments in receiving funds from the state resources and effectively discharging their functions as institutions of self-government.
