Jamshedpur, June 1: Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC), Jamshedpur, celebrated a major milestone on Monday with its first-ever Graduation Ceremony, held alongside the 33rd Convocation of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE).

A total of 133 MBBS students from the 2020–21 batch received their medical degrees at the ceremony held on the MTMC campus in Baridih, marking the graduation of the institution’s first batch since its establishment in 2020.
Governor Urges Doctors to Serve Humanity
Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, who attended as chief guest, described the occasion as a landmark moment for healthcare and society.

Addressing the graduates, he said medicine is not merely a profession but a noble mission dedicated to serving humanity.
“While technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics and advanced healthcare systems continue to transform medicine, the essence of healthcare remains rooted in empathy, trust and human connection,” the Governor said.
He urged the young doctors to uphold compassion and patient care as the foundation of their professional lives.

Degrees Conferred by MAHE Vice Chancellor
Degrees were conferred by Dr. Sharath K. Rao, Vice Chancellor of MAHE, who described the graduates as future healthcare leaders equipped with the competence, confidence and values needed in a rapidly evolving medical environment.
Joining the event virtually, Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari reminded graduates that doctors must go beyond treatment and become trusted advocates for their patients.
Dignitaries Highlight Role of Medical Education
Among those present were K. Vijay Kumar, Senior Security Advisor, Ministry of Home Affairs; D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel; Somnath Das, Group President–Special Projects and Officer on Special Duty to MAHE; and Brig. (Dr.) H.S. Bandhu, Dean of MTMC.
Speaking at the event, Vijay Kumar emphasised integrity, teamwork and lifelong learning in healthcare, while Dr. Rao highlighted MTMC’s emergence as a centre for medical education, research and innovation.
Somnath Das said the graduation of the first batch reflected the success of the unique collaboration between MAHE and Tata Steel, while D.B. Sundara Ramam noted that the institution represents Tata Steel’s commitment to strengthening education and healthcare in the region.
A Milestone for MTMC
Established in 2020, MTMC is a joint initiative of MAHE and Tata Steel, combining academic excellence with community-focused healthcare development.
The graduation of its first batch marks a significant milestone for the institution and signals the arrival of a new generation of doctors trained to serve communities with skill, compassion and purpose.
