Ranchi, Oct 7: Governor-cum-Chancellor of Jharkhand Universities, Santosh Kumar Gangwar, inaugurated the three-day 9th NAGI International Conference organized by the Department of Geography, Ranchi University, at Aryabhatt Auditorium.
The event, held under the theme “Sustainable Future of the Earth: Emerging Challenges in Resource Use and Management,” aims to bring together scholars, scientists, and policymakers to discuss pressing environmental issues.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Gangwar emphasized the critical importance of the theme, stating that the judicious use and conservation of resources is one of the greatest challenges of our time.

He highlighted that rapid globalization, industrialization, and urbanization, while providing economic opportunities, have also led to resource depletion, pollution, climate change, and global warming. He stressed that resource conservation is not merely about saving but involves rejuvenating and using resources in a balanced manner so that future generations can benefit.
Referring to Jharkhand’s unique heritage, the Governor said the state is a land of heroes, including Birsa Munda, who sacrificed for the motherland. He praised the state’s tribal communities for their nature-friendly lifestyle, which serves as an exemplary model of sustainable development.
He also noted that nearly 30 percent of Jharkhand’s area remains under forest cover, reflecting its ecological wealth.

Governor Gangwar further mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Panchamrit Sankalp,” which sets a target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070, and the Mission LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative encouraging environmentally conscious living.
He urged citizens to adopt small daily changes such as conserving water, using energy wisely, and promoting renewable energy to ensure a green and safe Earth for future generations.
Concluding his address, the Governor expressed confidence that the conference would generate valuable suggestions and actionable plans through discussions among scientists, academicians, and researchers, which could guide policymakers and planners.
He wished the conference success and hoped it would inspire concrete steps toward environmental balance and sustainable development.
