SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, Nov 29: As many as 754 paramedics (2020-22 batch) would be covered by the one-year mandatory service bond scheme, issued by the Jharkhand government.

Earlier, they had missed the benefits of the scheme as their results were published on August 28 while the government issued the notification on August 30. Since then, they had been agitating for their inclusion in the scheme.

Finally, the state government on November 28 issued a revised notification including the 2020-22 batch in the scheme.

In this regard, Deputy Secretary of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department of Jharkhand government, Ranjit Lohra issued a revised notification on Tuesday saying that the mandatory One Year Service Bond Scheme for Paramedical students now would be effective from August 28, 2023.

754 passed out students to benefit

Over  754 passed out  (2020-22 batch) Paramedical students of Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) Ranchi, Mahatma Gandhi  Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur, Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad and 18 Sadar Hospitals would be benefited from this revised notification of government.

One-year mandatory service with honorarium

The state government on August 30, 2023, issued a notification making a one-year mandatory service bond for the 2023-24  session passed out Paramedical students from government institutions with immediate effect.

Under the notification, Paramedical students will have to sign a bond at the time of admission for giving one year of mandatory service in a medical college hospital or government health centre after passing out.

During one year of mandatory bond service, a two-year course diploma holder Paramedical student will get an honorarium of  Rs 12,000 per month while a one-year course diploma holder will be paid Rs 10,000.

However, if a passed-out student fails to do one year of bond service, he would have to pay a penalty of Rs 1 lakh.

Paramedics hail the move

SNMMCH Para medical education coordinator Dr Ganesh Kumar admitted to having received the notification from the government and said that this would immediately sort out the crisis of Paramedical staff in the hospital. “This is a commendable step of the government which will benefit all,” he said.

The Jharkhand Para Medical Staff Association (JPSA) has highly praised the Additional
Chief Secretary (ACS) of Health Arun Kumar Singh for revising the notification. “Our 15 years old struggle finally bore fruit,“ said Raju Mahto, secretary of the JPSA.
