These officers had come under scrutiny following allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was brought in to investigate after concerns were raised about favoritism and manipulation in the selection procedure. The investigation focused on suspected tampering with answer sheets, manipulation of interview marks, and other violations in the candidate selection process.

Representing the officers, lawyer Pandey Neeraj Rai argued in court that his clients had fully cooperated with the CBI throughout the investigation. He also noted that since the charge sheet had already been submitted and the investigation was complete, there was no need for custodial interrogation. “Therefore, their arrest for investigation is not required,” he said.
