Jamshedpur, April 16: Jharkhand is reeling under intense heat, with temperatures rising sharply across the state and crossing 42°C in several areas.

Daltonganj hottest, severe heat across districts

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Daltonganj recorded the highest temperature at 42.6°C, about 3 degrees above normal. Jamshedpur and Chaibasa reported 40.2°C and 40.3°C, respectively, while Bokaro recorded 38.2°C.

Ranchi saw a maximum temperature of 37.8°C, nearly 2 degrees above normal. Night temperatures also remained high, with Jamshedpur at 27.4°C and Bokaro recording a sharp departure of 5.7°C above normal.

The weather remained completely dry, with no rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours across the state. Gumla reported the lowest minimum temperature at 19.1°C, while visibility in Jamshedpur was 1500 metres.

Automated Weather Station data showed widespread heat, with Seraikela at 40.9°C and Palamu at 40.3°C. Other districts such as Deoghar, Godda, Pakur, and Koderma recorded temperatures near or above 39°C, indicating a persistent heatwave.

IMD issues red alert, advises caution

The IMD has issued a red alert for several districts, warning of extreme heat and urging people to take precautions.

With high daytime temperatures and warm nights offering little relief, the heatwave continues to impact daily life and raise health concerns.
