Ranchi, May 17: The Jharkhand Biodiversity Board (JBB), Ranchi, has organized a series of state-level competitions to commemorate International Biodiversity Day on May 22.

Sanjeev Kumar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Member Secretary of the JBB, stated that these contests are being conducted online and are open to participants from across the state.

This year’s International Biodiversity Day theme, “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development,” forms the basis for all the competitions, Kumar added. Winners will be recognized and awarded by the chief guest at the state-level program marking the occasion.

Wide Participation in Various Competitions
The competitions have attracted significant interest, with around 1,000 participants in the quiz, 50 in art and craft, 30 in poster-making, 10 in photography, and approximately 700 in drawing contests organized by the Biodiversity Management Committees of selected Panchayats.
Ongoing Awareness Initiatives by Biodiversity Board
Beyond the competitions, the JBB is actively working to raise awareness among all Biodiversity Management Committees in Jharkhand through regular meetings and workshops.

To further promote biodiversity awareness, the Biodiversity Act is being translated and disseminated to the public in local languages such as Santhali, Khortha, and Mundari.
The board also honours individuals at the grassroots level to encourage continued participation and grassroot level involvement in biodiversity conservation.
