Daltonganj, May 9: A minor dispute over the price of a cold drink and chocolate allegedly led to firing at a confectionery shop in Jharkhand’s Palamu district on Friday.

The incident took place at Shahpur Chowk under the Chainpur police station area when a man visited a confectionery shop and asked for a cold drink and a chocolate.

According to police, the shopkeeper billed the items at ₹65 — ₹20 for the cold drink and ₹45 for the chocolate. However, the customer allegedly offered only ₹60, which the shopkeeper refused to accept.

The disagreement soon escalated into a heated argument, with neither side willing to back down over the ₹5 difference.

Police said the accused then allegedly pulled out a country-made pistol tucked behind his trousers and opened fire at the shopkeeper.

The bullet reportedly grazed past the shopkeeper’s ear, narrowly missing him and leaving him unhurt.

Chainpur police station officer-in-charge Sriram Sharma said the accused, identified as Saif Khaleefa (20), has been arrested.

The shopkeeper, Aenul Khaleefa (52), lodged a named FIR against the accused. Police said both individuals were known to each other.

Weapon recovered, accused sent to judicial custody

Police also recovered the country-made pistol allegedly used in the firing.

A case has been registered against Saif Khaleefa under the Arms Act, and he was forwarded to judicial custody on Saturday.

The investigation is underway.
