Ranchi, January 21: In an effort to combat land-related disputes and corruption in Jharkhand, the Minister for Land Revenue, Deepak Birua, is taking decisive steps to address the issue of fake land deeds. He has instructed the Land Revenue Department to improve the NIC software to curb the manipulation of land records and expedite the process of land mutation.
Action Plan to Tackle Fake Deeds
Minister Deepak Birua expressed concern over the growing corruption involving fake deeds. He explained that when an individual applies for a land deed, they receive a unique deed number. However, some individuals exploit minor discrepancies to cancel the deed and later reapply using the same deed number with a modified unique number. This practice not only promotes corruption but also contributes to the backlog of pending mutations.
The Minister has directed the department to implement strict measures to prevent reapplication of the same deed and to ensure that fraudulent mutations are eliminated.

NIC to Develop Advanced Software to Prevent Fraud
Minister Birua has also instructed the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to develop advanced software that will immediately flag and prevent reapplication of the same deed.
This measure is expected to reduce the number of pending mutations in different regions, while also simplifying the process for local administrative staff handling land-related tasks.
Protection of Tribal Landholders and Action Against Intermediaries
The Minister highlighted the lack of knowledge among tribal communities about land-related matters, which often leads to exploitation by intermediaries who profit from their ignorance.
He emphasized that fraudulent practices in land transactions would not be tolerated. Birua called for more attention to be given to resolving common people’s land issues and protecting their rights from unscrupulous elements.

This move by the government is aimed at curbing corruption in land transactions and ensuring that the tribal and common people are protected from fraudulent practices.
