Dhanbad, Sept 11: Three people, including two children, lost their lives and four others sustained serious injuries after an abandoned and dilapidated Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) quarter collapsed amid heavy rainfall in the Lodna area, about 12 km from the district headquarters, on Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred around 7 pm when several passersby took shelter inside the old structure to escape the downpour. Suddenly, the roof gave way, trapping those inside under the debris.

Local residents rushed to the spot, rescuing the victims—most of them children—and shifted them to a nearby private health centre.

Later, the injured were referred to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) in critical condition. SNMMCH superintendent Dr. Dinesh Kumar Gindauria confirmed that seven injured persons were brought in, of whom three were declared dead on arrival.

The deceased were identified as Gopal Mistri (30), Sushma Kumari (12), and Chirag Kumar (12). The injured included Shambhu Pasi, Abhi Kumar, Banti Kumar, Aquib Ansari, Sachin Yadav, and Aryan Sagar, who suffered serious injuries.
