Dhanbad, Sept 28: In the second counselling round for MBBS admissions, 38 out of 75 all-India quota seats were filled in four medical colleges in the state. The counselling process concluded on Friday evening.

All five government medical colleges in the state are authorized to offer 100 MBBS seats each, with 15% of these seats—equivalent to 15 seats—reserved for the all-India quota.

Admissions break-up

According to the official report from the state health department, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) in Jamshedpur recorded the highest admissions, with 11 students securing seats.

Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) in Dhanbad followed closely with 10 admissions, while Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) in Palamu saw 9 students enrolled. Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Hazaribagh filled 8 seats.

The official admission figures for Phulo Jhanho Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) in Dumka were not available.

Availability of seats for future counselling

Dr Diwakar Hansda, principal of MGMMCH, stated, “A total of 11 students took admission in the second round of counselling which concluded on September 27. Now four seats are left for 3rd and 4th round counselling.” Notably, no students had enrolled during the first counselling at MGMMCH.

At SNMMCH, a total of 11 students were admitted, although one student vacated the seat following an upgrade. Admission in-charge Dr Ganesh Kumar noted, “5 students took admission in 1st counselling and six in 2nd, but one of them vacated the seat. Now only five seats of all India quota are left.”

Details from other medical colleges

At MMCH Palamu, a total of 10 students were admitted under the all-India quota in the second counselling, with one student vacating their seat after the upgrade. Dr. Atul Prakash, admission in-charge at the college, mentioned that during the first counselling, which concluded on August 27, three students had been admitted.

At SBMCH Hazaribagh, eight all-India quota seats were filled after the second counselling. Principal Dr SK Singh reported that “Three students took admission in 1st counselling and seven in 2nd counselling, but two of them vacated seats following their up-gradation.”
