Daltonganj, Feb 24: Eight sellers of food items have been fined for improper food safety and standards in Palamu.

The court of the Adjudicator cum Additional Collector Kundan Kumar has passed an order of fine imposed on eight sellers.

The Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 regulates the quality and standard of manufacturing, storage, distribution, sale and import of food items.

A Kala Jamun seller was fined 25,000 rupees while a paneer seller was fined for rupees 50,OOO.

A Qorma seller was fined ₹25,000 for substandard quality, and Besan ka Laddoo seller was also fined ₹50,000.

A seller for poor quality of Gur was also fined. Samples of all the fined items were first tested at the state Food Testing Lab in Ranchi which found it substandard and or poor quality for human health.

This is the first major crackdown before the mass festival Holi, said sources.
