Dhanbad, July 1: Dhanbad police arrested nine cyber criminals from different states and districts while planning to cheat people from an apartment in the Nawadih area under Sadar police station today.

Senior Superintendent of Police HP Janardhan told media persons that the police recovered 29 mobile phones of different companies, five laptops, 37 credit and debit cards, 11 PAN cards, and nine passbooks from their room.

The arrested cyber criminals are residents of Chandigarh, Koderma, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih and Jamtara districts of Jharkhand.

Sun Bright Apartment

“They had taken a flat on rent in Sun Bright Apartment in Nawadih and have been operating from GT road, Tundi and East Tundi blocks of Dhanbad for the past few months. They were cheating people in the name of online games and closure of debit and credit cards,” said HP Janardhan.

The SSP said after getting complaints from victims, a team under cyber deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sanjiv Kumar was constituted to bust the criminals involved in the cheating case.

The SSP said that with support from the Jharkhand police, we got their location and thereafter raided the flat of the Nawadih-based apartment and arrested all of them in the room. The flat belongs to Somnath Singh.  The SSP said that after Jamtara and Deoghar, cybercriminals had made Dhanbad’s remote areas of GT Road and Tundi Road their operating fields.

“Interrogation of arrested cybercriminals is still on and based on their disclosure search for their other gang members involved in the crime is being conducted in different districts,” said HP Janardhan.
