All India Sub-Junior Badminton Tournament kicks off

Ranchi, Sept 26: The Yonex Sunrise All India Sub-Junior Badminton Tournament (Under-13 Boys and Girls) commenced today at the Thakur Vishwanath Shadeo Indoor Stadium in Ranchi.

The event was inaugurated by Anurag Gupta, DGP of Jharkhand, as the chief guest, while Manoj Kumar, Secretary of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sports, and Youth Affairs Department, was present as the guest of honour.

Qualifying rounds

NK Dey, Secretary of the Ranchi District Badminton Association, shared that the qualifying rounds will take place on September 26-27, followed by the main draw starting from September 28 through October 1.

On the opening day, approximately 75 matches were played. The tournament is being hosted by the Ranchi District Badminton Association.

Notably, five players from Jharkhand, including one female athlete, have been granted wild card entries.

Prominent guests  

Several distinguished personalities attended the opening ceremony, including RK Mallick (ADJ Jharkhand), YS Ramesh (DIG Palamu), Sunil Kumar (retired IAS), K Prabhakar Rao (Secretary of the Jharkhand State Badminton Association and Joint Secretary of the Badminton Association of India), Tapas Ghosh (Principal of DAV Bariatu), and former Olympian badminton player Chetan Anand.

BAI Secretary expected to attend 

Jharkhand Badminton Association Secretary K Prabhakar Rao mentioned that, if everything goes as planned, Sanjay Mishra, Secretary of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), will attend the Ranchi tournament to witness the junior matches firsthand.
