Jamshedpur, Jan 22: Arun Kumar, a prominent social worker and resident of Sitaramdera, has been appointed as the Chief Warden of the District East Singhbhum Civil Defence. This appointment, issued under the directives of Deputy Commissioner cum Controller East Singhbhum Ananya Mittal, was formalized by Sub-Divisional Officer cum Deputy Controller Shatabdi Majumdar.

Kumar’s appointment, which fills a position that had been vacant for a considerable time, is effective immediately and will continue until further orders. The official appointment letter has been handed to him, and a copy has been sent to the Commissioner of Civil Defence, Jharkhand Ranchi, for record purposes.

Role of Civil Defence in Disaster Management

Established in India in 1968, Civil Defence plays a crucial role in disaster management, particularly during emergencies such as wars or pandemics like COVID-19.

Its primary objective is to safeguard internal regions, assist the armed forces, and support the civil administration by mobilizing and organizing citizens.

East Singhbhum Civil Defence’s Contribution to Community Safety

The East Singhbhum division of Civil Defence is particularly active, with over 500 volunteers, divisional wardens, and post wardens serving in various localities. The team contributes significantly during major cultural and religious events such as Durga Puja and Ramnavami immersions, ensuring crowd control and safety.

Civil Defence in the district also conducts regular training programs for the public on critical topics such as disaster management, CPR, fire safety, first aid, road safety, and preventive measures to avoid potential accidents. These initiatives aim to enhance community preparedness and resilience during emergencies.

As the new Chief Warden, Arun Kumar brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to social service. His leadership is expected to further strengthen the organization’s efforts in disaster management and community outreach in East Singhbhum.
