PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Oct 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reposed its faith in Babulal Soren for the upcoming Ghatshila Assembly by-election slated for November 11.

The seat fell vacant following the demise of minister and senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Ramdas Soren.

Babulal Soren, son of former CM Champai Soren (who later joined BJP) who had contested the 2024 Assembly election from Ghatshila on a BJP ticket, has once again been chosen as the party’s official candidate.

After receiving the nomination, Soren took to social media to express his gratitude to the party’s top leadership.

“I extend my heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, BJP National President J.P. Nadda ji, Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji, Jharkhand BJP President Babulal Marandi ji, Working President Aditya Sahu ji, and all senior leaders and party workers for declaring me the official BJP candidate from Ghatshila Assembly constituency,” Soren wrote in his X post.

According to party sources, the BJP’s decision reflects its strategy to consolidate tribal votes and strengthen its base in East Singhbhum district.

The party hopes Soren’s local connect and grassroots experience will work in its favour in this crucial bypoll.

For the BJP, the Ghatshila seat holds symbolic importance as it seeks to reclaim ground in the Kolhan region, traditionally considered a JMM stronghold.

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is expected to announce its candidate soon, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral contest.
