Ranchi, Feb 15: The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a two-day nationwide strike on March 24-25, demanding the implementation of nine pending issues, including the regularization of temporary employees and a five-day work week.
Protest plans leading up to strike
Announcing the protest schedule, UFBU joint coordinators ML Singh and Manish Singh from Jharkhand stated that bank employees will stage demonstrations on February 21 and begin wearing protest badges from February 28.
If demands remain unfulfilled, a sit-in protest will be held in front of Parliament in New Delhi on March 3, followed by rallies across the country on March 21.

Demonstration in Ranchi
On Friday, bank employees held a massive demonstration outside the Bank of India zonal office in Ranchi, protesting against the management’s arbitrary orders and in support of their demands.
Singh and Manish emphasized that employees are united in their struggle and will intensify their agitation if their concerns are not addressed.
Key demands of Bank employees
The primary demands include:
- Regularization of temporary employees
- Implementation of a five-day work week
- Enhanced security measures to protect employees from customer attacks
- Filling vacant posts in public sector banks, including employee and director positions
- Resolution of all pending issues with the Indian Banks’ Association
- Increasing the gratuity amount to Rs 25 lakh, in line with government employees, and tax exemptions on it

Opposition to outsourcing and anti-labour policies
Bank unions have also opposed the outsourcing of permanent jobs, alleged anti-labour practices, and interference in the service conditions of officers and staff.
They have urged the management to address these issues promptly to avoid further disruptions in banking services.
