Daltonganj, May 16: A goof up in the syllabus of the BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) in Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) created an awkward situation on Thursday.

The syllabus’ 5th paper reads database management when it should be C++.

This goof up created a scene that could have been totally avoidable had faculties of the BCA noticed this goof up earlier and brought it to the notice of the exam department of the university.
Contrasting Reactions at Exam Centres
Two centres were set up for this exam of the BCA, one in Daltonganj and the other in Garhwa. There were in all 141 examinees, out of which 43 were examinees in the Garhwa centre and 98 in the Daltonganj centre.
The Garhwa centre examinees were cool and calm writing this paper without making any complaint there, while back here in Daltonganj, the examinees were restless and noisy.

The Daltonganj examinees demanded the cancellation of the Thursday exam for this subject.

The university, taking a timely and prompt decision, cancelled the Thursday exam of the 5th paper of the BCA due to a mismatch in the syllabus of the BCA.

The university thus saved itself from many unsavoury criticisms of it.
On May 15, there was the exam of the C++ paper, which in common terms is a programming language.
However, the syllabus by fault read the 5th paper as database management. So when the question papers were distributed, it was of database management instead of C++.
University Officials Acknowledge Avoidable Oversight
Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the exam department of the university Dr Gaurav Srivastav told this correspondent that the fault in the syllabus in regard to the 5th paper of the BCA caused all the embarrassments, which were avoidable had the faculties of the BCA detected and corrected it earlier.
Again, Dr Gaurav Srivastav said, “It’s equally intriguing that examinees in Garhwa centre were writing their 5th paper in all peace while the examinees in Daltonganj centre were restlessly demanding cancellation.”
“The university can’t afford to cancel the exam of one centre while leaving the other centre having the same exam to continue as then the university would have come under attack on its dual standards”, added Dr Gaurav Srivastav.
