Daltonganj, December 10: Beware of Indian Gaur or popularly known as Bison, in the Betla National Park under the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR), as bison also attacks humans.

A recent incident of bison’s attack on a goat grazer in Compartment 1 of the Betla National Park has come as a rude shock to people.
The poor goat grazer, 45-year-old Shiv Kumar Yadav sustained a left thigh fracture in the bison attack, rendering him to bed for 6 weeks or more.

Deputy Director, North Division of PTR, P K Jena, when asked about the behaviour of the bison in respect of attack on humans, said “Bison attacks. This giant and heavyweight wildlife attacks when it feels threatened or restricted.”

“Our advice to people in general and tourists who come here for days is only to keep off from wildlife as any infatuation of wildlife may pose dangers to life”, he said.
It’s tourist season in Betla National Park, and tourists just get excited to see this huge and sturdy built wildlife grazing by the side of roads in the Betla National Park.
Bison does give signs of attack in advance, like staring right at the face of the individual, raising the tail high etc, and it’s upto the individual to act fast on the signs before being hit or hurt in the attack.
Bison, despite having a bulky and voluminous body, runs faster like 30 to 35 miles per hour, and it’s enough to overrun any human.
