Jamshedpur, Feb 18: A grand assembly of the Bhumij community was held at the Yuktidih football ground in Ghatshila, showcasing unity and a deep commitment to preserving their rich cultural heritage. The event commenced with a Kalash Yatra in the morning, followed by the sacred Naya/Laya Daaram ritual, symbolizing cultural continuity and tradition.
Tribute to Martyrs and call for cultural preservation
In a powerful tribute to their legacy, the traditional flag of the Bhumij community was hoisted, reminding attendees of the community’s glorious history and spirit of resilience.
The highlight of the gathering was the unveiling of the statue of Veer Shaheed Raghunath Singh Bhumij, the revered hero of the Chuad rebellion, celebrated for his bravery and sacrifice.

A solemn Puja-Archana ceremony was performed in honor of the martyrs, paying homage to their courage and contributions to the community’s identity.
Addressing the gathering, Potka MLA Sanjeev Sardar emphasized the significance of unity and cultural preservation. He stated, “The history of the Bhumij community is full of sacrifice, struggle, and self-respect. This community never bowed down to injustice and exploitation. We have always created our identity and must continue to preserve it for future generations.”

Sardar also urged the youth to embrace their rich traditions and contribute to societal progress through education, employment, and active participation.
Education Minister highlights govt’s commitment to preserve Bhumij heritage
Education Minister Ramdas Soren, who inaugurated the event, praised the community’s unity and cultural pride. He highlighted the Jharkhand government’s commitment to preserving the legacy of the Bhumij community, mentioning ongoing efforts to include their history in the school curriculum. “The struggle and contributions of our great ancestors are a source of inspiration for the coming generations,” said Soren.
The event beautifully showcased the vibrant cultural heritage of the Bhumij community through mesmerizing performances by Punasia Adivasi Chhau Dance Party and Budhijhor Adivasi Shiv Shakti Chhau Dance Party, celebrating traditional dance art and folklore. The cultural programs captivated the audience, fostering a sense of pride and unity among community members.
To encourage community bonding and physical well-being, sports competitions were also organized, witnessing enthusiastic participation from the youth.
The grand celebration was organized by the Veer Shaheed Raghunath Singh Club, Yuktidih, under the leadership of President Manaranjan Singh, Secretary Prashant Singh, and Treasurer Mansaram Singh. The event was graced by several dignitaries and community leaders, making it a memorable occasion that highlighted unity, culture, and tradition.
