BIS Jamshedpur raids Koderma firm for misusing ISI mark

Jamshedpur, March 27: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jamshedpur branch office, conducted an enforcement raid at the premises of M/s Triveni Gold Pipe, located at Gujhandi, Koderma today.

The firm, which manufactures conduits for electrical installations, was found to be using the ISI mark on its products without a valid licence from BIS.

Investigation and Seizure of Goods

The raid was conducted based on information received regarding the misuse of the ISI mark.

In response, Kunal Kumar, Director & Head of BIS, Jamshedpur, formed a team for the operation. The team consisted of Kaushelendra Kumar, Scientist-E, Dilip Chattar, Scientist-D, and Rohit Kumar, PS, who carried out the search and seizure operation.

During the operation, a total of 36,570 pipes (each 3 meters in length) with the ISI mark were seized, which were found to be in violation of the BIS licensing norms.

All goods under misuse were seized by the BIS team.

Legal Implications and BIS Statement

Kaushelendra Kumar, Scientist-E, informed that the firm had violated the provisions of Section 17 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

He further said that under Section 29(3) of the BIS Act, such contravention is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to two years, or with a fine not less than Rs 2 lakh, which may extend up to 10 times the value of the goods or articles seized.

A BIS official said that they remain committed to ensuring the quality and safety of products sold in the market and will continue to take stringent action against any such violations of national standards.
