Sindri (Dhanbad), Nov 15: The Jharkhand government-owned BIT Sindri commenced its three-day mega Platinum Jubilee celebration on Friday.
The event began with a ceremonial function followed by a panel discussion featuring eminent dignitaries and alumni, including NHPC CMD Rajkumar Choudhary, Cybervidyapeeth Chairman Shashank Shekhar Garurar, NTPC Limited’s SN Tripathi, and ONGC Green Director General Ravi Kumar.
In his address, NHPC CMD Rajkumar Choudhary highlighted India’s ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2070. He emphasized the importance of energy storage and green hydrogen technology in realizing this goal.
Cybervidyapeeth Chairman Shashank Shekhar Garurar discussed India’s progress toward its 2030 target of generating 500 GWh through renewable energy. “Training is one of the core pillars of success in renewable energy,” he noted, praising India’s resilience in overcoming challenges.

NTPC’s SN Tripathi and ONGC Green’s Ravi Kumar advocated for integrating solar, hydro, and geothermal energy to reduce emissions and ensure inclusive growth.
Dr. Harinarayan Tiwari, founder partner of Floodkon Pvt Ltd, called for sustainable development strategies tailored to India’s unique needs.
Revolutionizing mining through AI and digitization
Prof. Ghanshyam, Chairman of BIT Sindri’s CDC and Media Committee, shared insights on the second session of the day, which focused on the transformative impact of AI and digitization in the mining sector. The session featured speakers such as NCL Director (Technical) SC Suman, BCCL’s Chitranjan Kumar, CCL’s Kalyanjee, and CIMFR Dhanbad’s Sanjoy Roy.
SC Suman stressed the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability in mining operations. Chitranjan Kumar and Sanjoy Roy elaborated on AI’s role in optimizing mining processes, reducing risks, and fostering environmental preservation.
Prof. Abhiram Kumar Verma of IIT Kharagpur introduced the concept of Mining 6.0, while MP Roy emphasized AI’s transformative potential in improving safety, growth, and ecological sustainability.

Cybersecurity: Challenges and solutions
The third session of the day delved into cybersecurity, exploring challenges and potential solutions.
Balkrishna Baranbal, Global Delivery Manager at TCS, highlighted key challenges and proposed robust measures, including multi-factor authentication and regular software updates, to address cybersecurity threats effectively.
Earlier in the day, BIT Sindri Director Prof. Pankaj Rai extended a warm welcome to the guests. CDC Chairman Prof. Ghanshyam, Coordinator Prof. Prakash Kumar, HoDs from all departments, and faculty members were present to celebrate the occasion and ensure the event’s success.
