Jharkhand News: Brown sugar racket busted in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, June 25: In a major crackdown on the narcotics trade, Jugsalai police have arrested a repeat offender involved in the illegal trafficking of brown sugar.

The accused has been identified as Mohammad Salman, alias Faddan, who has a history of involvement in similar criminal activities.

Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a swift raid under the Kharkai River Railway Bridge near Gareeb Nawaz Colony, where the suspect was allegedly attempting to sell the narcotic.

Salman was caught red-handed, and police recovered 18 pouches of brown sugar, a motorcycle, and a mobile phone—items believed to be used in the drug trade.

Sub-Inspector Gopal Kumar of Jugsalai police station has filed an FIR against the accused.

According to the report, Salman has been actively involved in the sale and distribution of narcotics for a long time and had previously served jail time for similar offences. The police suspect he was targeting local youth to hook them on drugs.

Following his arrest, the local community has expressed a sense of relief. However, residents of Gareeb Nawaz Colony and nearby areas acknowledge that the sale of brown sugar and other narcotics has been an ongoing issue for years.

Police have intensified their operations and are actively searching for others involved in the network.

The accused has been remanded to judicial custody. Officials said interrogations are underway, and more arrests are expected soon based on the leads provided by Salman.

Commenting on the arrest, a senior police officer stated, “The swift action by Jugsalai police is commendable. Our crackdown on the drug trade will continue, and anyone found involved will face strict legal action without exception.”
