International conference on Corrosion and Coatings (i3C) kicks off in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Feb 6: Experts from across India and abroad gathered in Jamshedpur to engage in discussions on various aspects of Corrosion and Coatings.

The occasion marks the commencement of the two-day International Conference on Corrosion and Coatings (i3C), organized by The Indian Institute of Metals, Jamshedpur Chapter, in collaboration with Tata Steel, CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), and National Institute of Technology (NIT).

The conference officially began today at Hotel Vivanta, Golmuri, here in Jamshedpur.

Inaugural Ceremony and Distinguished Speakers

The conference was inaugurated by the chief guest Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, NML; Guest of Honour, A K Manohar, Executive Director National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. (NTPC); Ashok Kumar, Chairman, IIM Jamshedpur Chapter & Head, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering; Raghuvir Singh, Chairman, i3C-2025; Tapan Rout, Convenor, i3C-2025 along with the other important dignitaries.

Sudhanshu Pathak, Ex-Vice President, Steel Manufacturing, Tata Steel Limited;  Ramanuj Narayan, Director, CSIR-IMMT, Praveen Thampi, Chief CRM TSK, Cold Rolling Mill,  Atul Srivastav, Vice president, Wulspun Group, were also present.

Conference Features and Technical Programme

The conference souvenir was also released during the inaugural function.

Raghuvir Singh, Chairman, i3C-2025 welcomed the delegates and highlighted the two-day technical programme of the conference.

This conference also features four plenary lectures and 15 keynote lectures and 40 contributory lectures. More than 15 postures along with technical stalls have been shown to all delegates and participants for the exposure.

Ashok Kumar, Chairman, IIM Jamshedpur Chapter briefed about the IIM overview and its activities throughout the year. He emphasized how IIM Jamshedpur is playing an important role in organizing this type of prestigious conference in the need of hours.

Insights from Experts on Corrosion Challenges

Chief guest Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML said, “Corrosion is a silent enemy and because of corrosion we lose more than 2-3 % of GDP every year. This is the time for all scientists, engineers and technologists to work in a team to combat corrosion. Steel is playing an important role to take our nation forward however protection of corrosion to steel structure needs immediate attention.”

Guest of Honour A K Manohar, Executive Director NTPC, New Delhi gave a thoughtful address over corrosion and how corrosion is ruining the entire structure of the power plants which require protective coatings solution from scientists of this nation.

Tapan Kumar Rout, Principal Scientist, Surface Engineering Research Group, R&D, Tata Steel Limited and Convenor, i3C 2025  expressed thanks to all guests, sponsors, speakers, participants and attendees.

More than 100 delegates and speakers from 34 reputed institutes from different parts of the county and aboard (hybrid model) are participating in the conference.
