Dhanbad, November 14: The bodies of two children were found in an open well in Elakend village of Dhanbad under Kalubathan police station, about 35 km from the district headquarters, a police official said.

The incident came to light on Thursday evening when the parents returned to the village from Dhanbad town and started searching for the children. After finding the children’s clothes near the open well, villagers looked inside and saw the bodies floating.
The police were informed immediately. Kalubathan police station sub-inspector Duvraj Mohli reached the village at 9 pm and sent the bodies for post-mortem to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad.

According to police, the children—Pallavi Soren (3.5) and Mandeep Hembram (3)—were cousins. Mandeep was the son of Haram Hembram, and Pallavi was the daughter of his sister, Shivani Soren.
The children’s parents had gone to Dhanbad town for work, leaving them at home. Police are now investigating how the children fell into the open well after removing their clothes and how no one noticed the incident.
