Jamshedpur, March 18: A CRPF sub-inspector was injured in an IED blast triggered by Naxals at Radha Poda village under the Jeraikela thana area in West Singhbhum on Tuesday morning.
Identified as Subodh Kumar who belongs to the CRPF’s 134 battalion has been airlifted to a hospital in Ranchi after being administered first aid at a health hub in Jeraikela.
Ongoing anti-insurgency operations
West Singhbhum SP Ashutosh Shekhar has stated in a press statement that the paramilitary forces, including the CRPF’s 134 battalion had started anti-insurgency operations in the hilly terrain of Jeraikela and the adjoining areas since March 4.
During the operation, the paramilitary forces had an encounter with the Naxals. After a prolonged exchange of fire between the two sides, the Naxals started retreating in view of the super firepower of the paramilitary forces.

But while fleeing the spot, the Naxals triggered a powerful IED that they had planted in the jungle before, aiming to target the paramilitary forces.
Injured officer in stable condition
Consequently, the sub-inspector Subodh Kumar who was in the blast’s impact range was injured.
The police and the bosses of the paramilitary forces had immediately taken care of the injured officer and had arranged a helicopter to take him to Ranchi for treatment.
The West Singhbhum SP informed that the condition of the injured officer is stable and he is recuperating.
It may be mentioned here that top Naxals, belonging to the outlawed outfit, CPI-Maoist, have sneaked into the Kolhan forest region along with their squad for the past three years, giving a challenging time to the police and paramilitary forces which are trying to eliminate the insurgents by running anti-insurgency operations there.
