Daltonganj, April 14: Town police along with its outpost police pre-empted a crime nabbing a criminal whose search led to the recovery of a loaded ‘desi katta’ (country-made pistol) with one round of fire.

One other criminal managed to flee abandoning his bag which when the police searched found a revolver but without any cartridge for any of the six chambers.
SDPO Sadar Mani Bhushan Prasad held a press briefing today along with the officers in charge Deobrat Poddar and Rakesh Kumar of the town outpost police.

Revolver Found in Abandoned Bag
Giving details SDPO Sadar Mani Bhushan Prasad said there was a tip-off about two suspicious youths, in their early 20s, standing near the Daltonganj railway station last night.
Police swung into action immediately and one criminal Chandan Verma was caught with a loaded desi katta. One live round of fire was also recovered.

Chandan’s accomplice Nitish Sharma managed to escape but threw away his bag.
SDPO Sadar Mani Bhushan Prasad said police searched the abandoned bag of Nitish and found in it a six chamber revolver, all without any cartridge.

Criminal Background and Investigation
Chandan and Nitish have a long criminal antecedence. Nitish had even spent four years in the Gaya jail. Chandan has 9 cases against him.
Chandan’s father is an auto rickshaw driver who claimed his son has been implicated by Nitish but couldn’t explain as to what Chandan was doing last night near the Daltonganj railway station and how he had in his possession a desi katta.

SDPO Sadar said Chandan blamed Nitish for his possessing the illicit weapon. Chandan has been remanded to judicial custody today under various sections of the Arms Act. A hunt is on for Nitish who dodged the police last night.
