Dhanbad, Dec 5: Amid a growing number of cybercrimes, Deoghar’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vishal Sagar has launched a special campaign aimed at eradicating the district’s increasing reputation as a hotspot for cybercrime. Known worldwide for the revered 12th Jyotirlingam (Baba Dham), Deoghar has recently gained notoriety as a hub for cybercriminals.

Crackdown on cyber criminals and awareness campaign

The district has intensified efforts to crack down on cyber criminals at the ground level. DC Sagar has placed a strong emphasis on educating the public about how to avoid falling victim to digital arrests.

Rising cases of cybercrime in Deoghar

In recent years, Deoghar has become infamous for harbouring cyber criminals, despite continued arrests by the police. Unfortunately, incidents of digital arrests continue to rise.

On December 3, police apprehended two cyber criminals from a forested area along the Kothia-Dumma road and seized two mobile phones and four fake SIM cards used in their illegal activities.

Earlier, on November 29, two criminals were arrested from the Ghorparas forest in Sarwan, with the police recovering four mobile phones and eight SIM cards.

The arrest of notorious cyber criminals has become a regular occurrence for the local police. Digital arrest, a deceptive tactic employed by cyber criminals, involves falsely presenting themselves as officials to arrest people through digital means.

Raising public awareness

Under the special campaign, DC Vishal Sagar has directed activists to spread awareness among the public. He urged people not to panic if they receive calls or WhatsApp messages claiming to be from official sources. Instead, they are encouraged to report such incidents to the police station or dial the helpline at 1930.

DC Sagar emphasized that cyber criminals use this deceptive tactic to extort money from unsuspecting victims.

“As we keep alert for our safety in the real world, similarly we should be alert for safety in the virtual world,” said DC Vishal Sagar.
