Dhanbad, Dec 2: Neha Verma, a lawyer practising at the Dhanbad court, tragically lost her life in a road accident at Katras More on the Dhanbad-Jharia road under Jharia police station jurisdiction this afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3 PM when Neha, a resident of Digwadih, was returning home from court on a motorcycle with her husband. A payloader belonging to Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) collided with their bike at Katras More. Neha fell to the ground, and the vehicle’s wheel fatally crushed her head.
Public outcry after incident
Following the incident, angry protests erupted as lawyers from the Dhanbad court and residents blocked the road with her body, halting traffic completely.

Sindri SDPO Ashutosh Kumar Satyam and Jharia police station in-charge Shashi Ranjan Kumar rushed to the scene with police reinforcements to manage the situation. The agitated crowd, alleging reckless driving as a frequent cause of such accidents on the busy Dhanbad-Jharia Road, vandalized coal company vehicles in protest.
Dhanbad Bar Association President Amrendra Kumar Sahay, General Secretary Jitendra Kumar, and other lawyers also arrived to support the protest.
Protesters accused the police of failing to enforce traffic regulations, allowing rampant violations to continue unchecked. They demanded stringent action against the driver, who fled the scene after the accident.
Police officials assured the demonstrators of strict action against the driver and efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future.
