Dhanbad, May 27: The Dhanbad Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has successfully rescued a deaf and mute minor boy from Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu and reunited him with his family in Dhanbad.

CWC Dhanbad chairman Uttam Mukherjee stated that the child had gone missing from Dhanbad nearly four months ago. Due to the child’s inability to speak or hear, an FIR was promptly lodged and the CWC launched a special campaign to trace his whereabouts.

Boy Located in Tamil Nadu Shelter Home
The breakthrough came when the chairman of the CWC in Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu, contacted Uttam Mukherjee and informed him about a child matching the missing boy’s description being housed in a shelter home in Mayiladuthurai.
However, when Mukherjee contacted the shelter authorities, they initially refused to release the boy, citing that his Aadhaar card listed an address in Patna, Bihar, which cast doubt on his Dhanbad connection.
Local Efforts Lead to Child’s Release
Former ward commissioner and social activist Nirmal Mukherjee of Dhanbad stepped in and provided proof of the boy’s Dhanbad residence. This documentation helped establish his identity and residence beyond doubt.

Following the verification, on Monday evening, an official from the Mayiladuthurai shelter home, Mohan Bharti, accompanied the boy to Dhanbad. After confirming his identity, the child was officially handed over to the Dhanbad CWC and reunited with his parents.
This marks the first time that Dhanbad CWC has successfully rescued a missing child from such a distant state. The effort highlights the importance of inter-state coordination and swift action in child protection and welfare cases.
