Dhanbad, Dec 23: Media persons from Dhanbad, representing both print and electronic outlets, staged a dharna at Randhir Verma Chowk on Monday under the banner of the Press Club in protest against the assault on Giridih senior journalist Amarnath Singh by anti-social elements. The protest aimed to demand the implementation of the Journalist Security Act.
Solidarity and defiant stance
Dhanbad Press Club president Sanjiv Kumar condemned the attack on Amarnath Singh, describing it as an unfortunate incident. He stated that it reflects the growing audacity of anti-social elements who seem to have no fear of the law. Kumar emphasized that immediate and effective action must be taken against those responsible.
Expressing solidarity with the victim and the media community in Giridih, Sanjiv Kumar announced that the media would continue its protest against the anti-social elements, regardless of the consequences. The Press Club remains steadfast in its commitment to securing justice for Amarnath Singh.

Memorandum to CM to implement Journalist Security Act
Dhanbad Press Club’s general secretary strongly criticized the assault, urging the state government to take swift and severe action against the perpetrators.
He also highlighted the urgent need for a Journalist Security Act to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In support of this, the Press Club sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Hemant Soren through the Deputy Commissioner, demanding the immediate implementation of the act to ensure the safety of media personnel.
The protest saw the participation of senior officials and members of the Press Club, including Senior Vice President Shashibhushan Singh, Vice Presidents Pratik Popat, Balwant Kumar, Amar Prasad, Surendra Yadav, Sharad Chandra, Secretary Mohan Gope, and several other members.
Print and electronic media professionals from various media houses also joined the demonstration, voicing their commitment to the cause.
