Jamshedpur, Oct 13: In a major breakthrough, Dhanbad police, with the assistance of their Jamshedpur counterparts, arrested Ashish Singh Rajput, the prime accused in a recent firing incident that had sparked tension in Dhanbad.

The arrest came following a late-night raid at a hideout in the steel city.

Acting on precise intelligence inputs, a special Dhanbad police team reached Jamshedpur on Sunday and conducted a swift operation under the jurisdiction of Bistupur police station.

The accused was apprehended without resistance from a rented accommodation, where he had been staying in disguise to evade arrest.

During the operation, police recovered a country-made pistol, live cartridges, and multiple mobile phones from Rajput’s possession.

The seized items are being examined for potential leads on his associates and involvement in other criminal activities.

According to officials, Rajput is a notorious criminal with several cases pending against him, including attempt to murder, extortion, and arms smuggling.

Investigators suspect that he fled to Jamshedpur soon after orchestrating the Dhanbad firing to regroup and plan further illegal operations.

A senior police officer from Dhanbad described the arrest as a significant success in their ongoing campaign against organized crime in the coal belt region.

“We had been tracking Rajput’s movements for weeks. His arrest will help us dismantle the wider network behind the recent firing case,” the officer said.

The accused will be taken to Dhanbad on transit remand for interrogation and further legal action. Police sources added that more arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.

The operation has been lauded as an example of effective inter-district coordination and prompt action, demonstrating the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
