Jamshedpur, March 6: Police have succeeded in tracking down a suspected extortioner who had threatened over mobile phone to blow up the showroom of businessman Dilip Goel.

Significantly, the alacrity with which the police resolved the case is hardly seen nowadays.

The man in question, Rahul Tiwari alias Rahul Parekh, had threatened Goel, a resident of CH Area in Bistupur, on the night of March 4, and the police succeeded in arresting the culprit within 36 hours.

Owner of ASL Group and ASL Motors, Dilip Goel, is a leading businessman and owns more than one automobile showroom in Jamshedpur and Gamharia.

Revealing about the breakthrough, senior SP Kishore Kaushal said that soon after Goel had received the intimidating call, he had lodged a complaint with the Bistupur thana against an unknown caller.

SIT Traces and Arrests Accused

“As the matter was serious, we set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to detect the caller. The SIT, which was being monitored by City SP, Kumar Shibashish, nabbed the culprit from his house in Jugsalai’s Purani Bustee Road today,” said Kaushal while briefing the newsmen on Thursday afternoon.

The senior police officer said that the accused Rahul had borrowed a cell phone from the staff of a jewellery shop, pretending that the battery of his own cell phone was exhausted.

“Having taken the cell phone, the accused had made the call to Goel and then returned the handset, having deleted the number. But having pursued the human intelligence and mobile phone surveillance, the SIT succeeded to reach upto the culprit who has confessed his crime during interrogation,” said the senior SP.

Extortion Motive Under Investigation

Kaushal said that the accused, Rahul Tiwari alias Rahul Parekh had once worked in one of Goel’s firms and now works in some other organisation.

The senior police officer, when queried, said that the accused might have an ulterior motive to extort money from Goel behind making the threatening call, adding that the arrested person is in the process of being sent to jail.
