Dhanbad, March 6: A third-year Electronics Engineering student, Tanmay Prajapati (21), was found dead in the washroom of the Aquamarine Hostel at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad this morning.
According to IIT ISM security officer Ram Manohar, Tanmay had been residing on the 9th floor of the hostel. At around 9:45 AM, his washroom was found locked from the inside. The security team immediately informed the police. Upon breaking open the door, Tanmay was found unconscious on the floor. He was rushed to the nearby Asian Jalan Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The cause of death remains unclear, with the security officer stating, “We cannot determine what he consumed.” Tanmay, a student from the 2022-2026 batch, hailed from Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Upon receiving the information, officers from the Dhanbad Sadar police station arrived at the hostel and initiated an investigation. A police officer said that preliminary findings suggest the possibility of poisoning, though the exact cause will be confirmed after the postmortem report.
The body has been placed in the mortuary at Asian Jalan Hospital. After the arrival of Tanmay’s family from Indore, the body will be sent for postmortem.
