Daltonganj, January 14: Three salesmen from a government foreign wine placement agency have landed in jail after being caught for theft.
Initially, they embezzled 45 lakh rupees from the sale proceeds of government foreign wine over a period of time. To cover up their original theft, they resorted to further criminal activity.
Their actions ultimately led to their arrest, with charges filed under Section 310 of the BNS and Section 25 of the Arms Act.
Deception unraveled by Hussainabad police
Here is the case in brief as unfolded by the SP Reeshma Ramesan.
The three salesmen identified as Randheer, Vikas and Abhay of the government foreign wine placement agency in the Hussainabad police subdivision had misappropriated 45 lakhs of rupees which was the sale proceeds and was to be credited to the Jharkhand State Beverages Corporation Ltd.
Their misery began when the Excise Superintendent of Palamu S K Deo planned to visit and inspect this particular placement agency on January 9.
This time, the three salesmen attempted to deceive both the Excise Superintendent and the police. On January 9, when the Excise Superintendent had scheduled an inspection of the placement agency, they staged a near-realistic scene of the theft of the cash and its locker.

The idea was to pass off their misappropriation of 45 lakhs of government money in respect of the sale proceeds as stolen by thieves. The trio failed in it.
And it was the team of the Hussainabad police led by its SDPO S Mohammad Yakub which not only took the wind out of the sail of this cover-up theft but unearthed their misappropriation worth 45 lakhs of government money. It was a twin gain of the police.
3 salesmen and their 2 accomplices remanded to judicial custody
The three salesmen had the support and involvement of their two more friends. The five had thought of befooling the Excise Superintendent and the police but they themselves became the fool of the first water.
The three salesmen Randheer, Vikas and Abhay were remanded to judicial custody along with their two friends Bipin and Pankaj.
SP Reeshma Ramesan told the Jharkhand Story correspondent, “The criminal disposition of the trio was most evident. They first stole the government money. Then they tried to ditch their department and the police by enacting and creating a near-real scene of crime of theft. But at one place the trio erred and there our SDPO S Mohammad Yakub and his team making no mistake exposed them to the hilt.”
In this case the ‘error’ that the three salesmen committed helped the police to reach the bottom of the case.

Repeated queries by this correspondent to explain the error so committed by the three salesmen, were set aside by the SP saying any revelation of the error would make others like these three salesmen more wiser and able to get away with their act of crime which the police would never allow.
SDPO S Mohammad Yakub too was tight lipped of the error committed by the salesmen. The three salesmen got caught in their own spun web of crime Yakub added.
