Jamshedpur, Dec 13: In a major breakthrough, the police seized as many as 40 bovines by arresting four persons under the Kuchai thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Khardawan district on the intervening night of Friday.
The arrests were made in the wee hours today while the criminals were driving the herds of cattle away towards Ichagarh on their way to West Bengal for slaughtering purposes.
STF conducts operation
The operation against the bovine smugglers was carried away by a special task force (STF) set up by Seraikela-Kharsawan SP, Mukesh Kumar Lunayat, following intelligence input that such racket is running in the grab of darkness regularly.
Significantly, the Kuchai police was kept in the dark until the operation was successfully carried out. The OC of the Kuchai thana was informed about all this when it came to accommodating the seized bovines.

Cow vigilante calls for strict laws
Meanwhile, Sujeet Kumar Sahu, a key functionary of Bhartiya Govansh Rakshsk Sambardha, a wing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad said that the state government should make amendments to the existing laws meant for the protection of bovines smuggling.
“The government should bring in more stringent laws by amending the existing ones so that such persons arrested for smuggling bovines may not obtain bail even from the High Court,” observed Sahu while talking to this correspondent.
