Dhanbad, June 4: In a major breakthrough, the Dhanbad police arrested four armed dacoits, including two from Bihar, just before they attempted to rob a microfinance company in the upscale Bank More market area. The arrests were made outside the company’s office under Bank More police station jurisdiction.

City Superintendent of Police (SP) Ritvik Shrivastav informed the media that the suspects were apprehended by a special police squad at the gate of the microfinance office as they attempted to force their way in. They had arrived on two motorcycles and were reportedly preparing to carry out an armed robbery.

Identities and Seized Items

The arrested individuals have been identified as Prakash Kumar (28) of Arrah district, Bihar; Rishabh alias Lokesh (26) of Pirbahor in Patna district, Bihar; Karamjeet Singh Sidhu (55) of Chasnala South Colony, Dhanbad; and Arman Ansari (22) of Bagdigi Basti under Jorapokhar police station area, Dhanbad.

Police recovered a pistol, a country-made firearm, two live cartridges of 9mm, four live cartridges of .305 bore, two stolen motorcycles, and three smartphones from the accused.

Crackdown Led by Special Squad

Acting on the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar, a special team was constituted under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Naushad Alam and Sindri SDPO Ashutosh Kumar Satyam. The team successfully intercepted the suspects as they reached the office gate.

SP Shrivastav stated that during interrogation, the arrested men confessed they were acting on the directions of Guddo alias Om Prakash Prasad, who is currently lodged in Purulia Jail, West Bengal. The same gang was involved in the high-profile Rs 8 crore jewellery heist at Senco Gold in Purulia in 2023.

The operation was carried out by a coordinated team consisting of Bank More Police Station Officer-in-Charge Praveen Kumar, Inspectors Ranjeet Kachhap and Pawan Kumar Das, and Sub-Inspectors Dinesh Kumar and Goddu Kumar. Their swift and strategic action prevented what could have been a major crime in one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs.
