Daltonganj, Jan 7: The South Forest Division of Garhwa achieved a major breakthrough with the discovery of tiger scat.

Cameras installed for morphological assessment

Confirming this the Divisional Forest Officer of the South Division Garhwa, Ebin Benny Abraham told the Jharkhand Story today, ” We got scat of the tiger. It has been preserved. It will be sent to the Wildlife Institute of India Dehradun for the genetic analysis of the tiger.”

Abraham further said, “We have installed an adequate number of camera traps around the kill. We look forward to having trapping the tiger in the cameras installed.”

Once the tiger’s image is captured through camera trapping, its morphology, including body size, stripes, teeth, and gender, will be assessed.

Tracking the tiger with pug marks and PoP documentation

In addition to the scat, forest officials have also discovered pug marks, which have been carefully recorded on tracing paper and in Plaster of Paris (PoP). Documenting pug marks in PoP helps in identifying and tracking tigers.

Meanwhile, the people of Garhwa, particularly in the South Forest Division, have learned to live without panic, placing their trust and confidence in the forest officials. The villagers believe that the authorities have consistently supported them, at a time when a tiger is on the prowl, ensuring their safety and well-being.
